Description
The City of Kimberling City and their Park Board would like to cordially invite you to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for a new park located at 19 Lakeshore Dr. in Kimberling City on April 10, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
Groundbreaking attendees can park at the First Baptist Church located on Lakeshore Dr., as parking is limited at the park site. The last shuttle will leave the church parking lot at 10:50 AM, so please arrive early. Parking and shuttle services to the park site are graciously provided by First Baptist Church of Kimberling City.
The City of Kimberling City is very excited to announce the first city owned park since the 1980’s. This park will be located in a high-need area with many children and families residing within a short distance of the park site. Kimberling City received a $15,000 grant from Kaboom!, a non-profit organization, towards playground equipment for this park. The remainder of the funding to complete the Lakeshore park will be provided by funds from the City, sponsorships, donations and fundraising by the Park Board. The estimated total cost of the Lakeshore park will be $50,000-$60,000.
Some of the park features will include:
- New playground structure with various levels of play opportunities, including ADA accessible play components;
- Grassy areas for free play;
- Terraced, limestone seating;
- Trees for shade (AND climbing!);
- Benches for additional seating;
- Terraced levels leading down to natural creek on back edge of park site;
- Fencing to provide safety for children and security for adjoining residents.
This park is being made possible by the generous vision of the Kimberling City Mayor, Bob Fritz, the Board of Aldermen, Ed Bistline, Christian Martin, Virgil Moore, and Michele Stump, as well as the City Administrator, Jerry Harman, City Staff and the Public Works Department.
There are multiple opportunities for community members and business owners to contribute to the construction and completion of this park. As the construction of the Lakeshore Park progresses, we will be looking for teams to help with community awareness as well as 100+ volunteers for our “Build Day” event to bring our new park to life.
For more information about the Groundbreaking Ceremony or other information regard the park, sponsorship/donation opportunities, etc., please contact Jerry Harman at City Hall or by calling 417-739-4903.
